Every study abroad journey is a unique story. But among the thousands of stories, some are truly moving, inspiring intensely through extraordinary will and determination. Today, let’s join SIEC Study Abroad Consultants to discover the Canadian study abroad success story of Justin Do (Do Duc Tien) – a living testament that adversity forges extraordinary people.
Born and raised in a working-class family in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City, Justin was aware of the burden on his parents’ shoulders early on. The dream of studying in Canada was a luxury for him then, a twinkling star that seemed out of reach.
The biggest barrier was not just financial, but also his “fledgling” English skills. However, it was these challenges that forged an iron will. Justin threw himself into studying, self-researching, and seizing every opportunity to improve himself, nurturing the intention to change his future through knowledge.
And then, his relentless efforts paid off. Justin officially set foot in Calgary, Alberta, and became a new student at the SAIT Polytechnic – one of Canada’s leading applied education institutions.
The early days were a real shock. The competitive learning environment, new teaching methods, and cultural differences often made Justin feel lost.
“I felt helpless at times, especially with communication. But whenever I felt discouraged, I thought of my parents’ expectations back home. That was the motivation that didn’t allow me to fall,” Justin recalls.
Justin turned pressure into motivation. He spent hours in the library, actively joined student clubs, and took on part-time jobs for practical experience and practice. His perseverance paid off. He not only kept up with his studies but also became one of the outstanding students with remarkable achievements.
On graduation day, Justin Do proudly held his excellent degree from SAIT, officially closing his admirable journey of overcoming hardship and opening a new, promising chapter in Calgary – one of the most dynamic and opportunity-rich cities in the world.
Absolutely. SAIT is renowned for its practical, industry-linked training programs. This results in a very high employment rate for graduates, especially in the city of Calgary.
It’s entirely possible, and Justin’s story is the clearest proof. Many schools in Canada offer intensive English as a Second Language (ESL) programs to support international students before their main courses. The most important things are a clear study plan and strong determination.
